The children's department has been busy as school and pre-school storyhour resume at full
power. There are 80 children registered in the 3~-5 year-old sessions and 59 children
registered in the 2~-3~ year-old sessions.
A special senior citizen program was presented on October 8 at the library in conjunction
with the Minnesota Chautauqua Circuit "Minnesota Heroes: Sung and Unsung" contained narra
rive and song which examines little-known and well-known characters from Minnesota's his
tory and culture. John Berquist and Carol Hepokoski were the presenters. Thanks go to
the Minnesota Association of Library Friends and the National Endowment for the Humanities
for making this program possible. Thanks go to Margaret Anderson, Marie Eng, Estelle Nel-
son, and Aileen Sturdevant for the apple cakes they baked and to Marie Eng, Estelle Nelson
Evelyn Reinholdson, Madge Sandgren, and Lee Wilkie for helping to serve.
~n the 21st Jo and Michelle attended the annual Children's Book Fair at the University
and came back with lots of good ideas. On the 3Oth Michelle attended the fall Municipals
banquet and heard Erica Bouza give the keynote speech.
On October 27th Gloria Uden retired from the library after twelve years of dedicated ser-
vice. Gloria has held many different positions with the library and has always approached
her work with precision and an attention to detail. She has seen the library develop its
collection and connect its data base so that computers could be used for a circulation
system. The staff will miss her, and we wish her and Rudy the ~ry be. st a.% che~7 start
