A gala balloon launch on June 10, 1986, at 2:00 p.m. will signal th~ offlci~! graft of a very busy summer season at the library. In an effort to increase circ~]ation over the next twelve months, special events and contests will be occurring. Staff members are ai~ wearing buttons that say, "Ask ~ne--I'm here to help" and will be asking patrons who check out materials whether or not they found everything they wanted. How about you--is you~ library card current and did ~ou find everything you wanted the last time you were in the library? ~ ~ ~ T H E Y ' R E C O M I ~ G ~ ~ ~ Are you ready to enter the 21st century? After two years of planning and Lard work, the library is ready and willing, and thanks to the City Council's ~nitial approval~ the automated circulation system will become a reality in i~g6-87. Every patron and every item owned by the library will be assigned a ~n~que barcode. When an item is borrowed~ a light pen will be used to create a link between the two barcodes in the computer's data base. When the item is returned, the link will be broken. This system will provide accurate, timely records on the patron's borrowing record and on the status of requested materials. New plastic library cards will be issued, and it will become wery important to always carry your library card with you when you want to borrow materials. Keep watch for further announcements as to progress of the library's conversion and as to how service and access to the collection will be improved.
