On April 8, the Read-to-Me Club party drew 60 participants who had qualified by completing the required number of reading sheets. Four special field trips were hosted by Miss Jo for a total attend- ance of 76 people. Six sessions of pre-school crafts had a total of 243 participants over a two-week schedule. Thanks go to Nancy Rathbun, Kay Reiners, Evelyn Reinholdson, and Madge Sandgren for the Hawaiian wedding cake they baked for the April senior citizen program. Thanks also go to Connie Carlson, Nancy Rathbun, Macile Reinholdson, and Madge Sandgren ~or helping to serve. April 6-12 was proclaimed National Library Week and Fine Free Days in Columbia Heights Winners in our celebration contests were: READING RAFFLE winners and prizes Clinton Anderson - Rand McNall~ 1986 road atlas. A1Turnquist - Picnic and tailgate parties cookbook. Lori Johnson - Guinness book of world records. Ruby Steiskal - New pocket encyclopedia of calories and nutrition. Linda Brown - Travel diary. Becky attended the annual Minnesota Library Association confer- ence in St. Paul on April 16-17 and participated in sessions on comparable worth, automation, and legislative lobbying. National Secretaries' week was April 20-26, and Becky, Peg, and Gloria celebrated with lunch at Arthur's. HELP! HELP! HELP! Miss Jo needs plastic margarine cups and the plastic eggs that L'eggs pantyhose come in for some summer programs. If you have any of these items or are willing to save them for us, we would appreciate it. The library has kicked off~a major staff project entitled "COLUMBIA HEIGHTS: A CITY OF READERS" and you will be seeing a lot of new promotions in the building. If you .cannot find something in the library, remember to ask a staff person--we are here to help! Other staff projects for the month included: 1. Book order 2. Update of periodical holdings 3.
