figures represent only those items which are physically removed from the
building by patrons. Many patrons use reference books, periodicals, and other items from
the collection in the building. LIBGIS statistics represents when a staff member assists
a patron, either in finding a specific answer, an item requested, or a location. The com-
bination of these two pieces of data does not cover use of materials within the building
when a patron locates tbem~ without staff assistance. Because of such a wide range of use
factors~ approximate figures only are available for many aspects of library services and
their use by patrons.
The children's department is busily preparing for the winter session of pre-school programm
Jo put on three special ~eld trips for pre-school groups during the week of January 27, as
well as providing regular library services to the scheduled classes from Immaculate Concep-
tion School.
Thanks go to all the Friends of the Library for the donut holes they provided for the
January senior citizen program. Thanks also go to Connie Carlson, Delight Olson, Aileen
Sturdevant, and Lee Wilkie for helping to serve.
Thanks also go to the V.F.W. Auxiliary of Post 230 for the playpen which they bought for
use in the children's department by parents with babies. Now the parents can browse and
select materials with both arms free.
Ail Campbell labels for the 1985 campaign need to be turned in to the library by February
15. Labels turned in after that date will go toward the 1986 campaign.
The library recently received a VCR and color television set for use with cable channel
16, Q~Jr thanks to the Cable Commission and to City Manager Bob Bocwinski for making this
cqui~ment available for our use. Thanks also to Bill DeCoursey and John See for their
assistance in making the system operational, l.ooic for new
near f~ture on Ch~nnel 16--The Li*~r~ry Channel.
The big news all year in the library will be ~utomation and the usc of co~puters to aid
ot~r circulation system. This will be n big c~ngc for the library anal wil I alleviate
most of the manually-maintained records we cc, rrc~ntly keep on the collection and the
patrons. We are encouraging our patrons to start carrying their library cards at at1 times
and to u,)date addresses, n~cs, and phone numbers when necessary. The staff will bc
working hard to keep patrons a!,nrised of new developments of implementation.
Congratulations to all the library's new pages who recently completed their probationary
terms of employment. Looking good!
