The Children's Department is in full fall-program swing°
The response
to pre-school story hour has been great9 and there are 45 (3-4 year-olds),
35 (3½-5 year-olds), and 25 (2 year-olds) registrants in the three different
sections. Jo has also been scheduling in special field trips for day care
centers and nursery schools.
Thanks go to Margaret Anderson~ Estelle Ne]son, Janie Polley~ Kay
Reiners, and Stella Rose for the pumpkin cakes they baked for the October
senior citizen program. Thanks also go to Estelle Ne]son, Kay Reiners~ Stel~
Rose~b~adge Sandgren, and Ruth Westerberg for helping to serve. The special
program~ "To a New Land~ by John Berquist was presented at the library as
part of the 1985 Minnesota Chautauqua. Funding was made possible by a grant
from the Minnesota Humanities Commission in cooperation with the Minnesota
Association of Library Friends.
October 27 marked the passing into another life of a life-long friend
and supporter of the Columbia Heights P~blic Library. Ruth Russell Miller
served on the Library Board for 30 years and was an active member of the
Friends. Always looking for ways to expand the collection and library
services~ Ruth provided hearty vocal support in the political process which
is an important part of a public library. Her humor and thoughtfulness will
be missed.
