Summer reading club, with the theme ~'Adventures in Reading,~' has 561 registered participants already. Twenty-three children made ceramic dolls and other projects in Sharon Hagen's three-week-long classes held at the library. On June 11 the "Looney, Looney, Looney Bugs Bunny Movie" was shown to an audience of 153. On the 18th~ 96 participants created their own puzzles in a craft program. On the 25th, 49 animals and 85 children gathered forces to make a grand success of the library's annual pet show° Thanks go to Emy and Morris Hagen for their excellent help as impartial judges. The Book Bus has had its first two runs of the year, with 879 books circulated to our park patrons. Mr. Ed Geslin is back as the driver, and Erin Kintop (10~ years old), Teresa Guzik (10~ years old), and Chris- tine Guzik (12~ years old) travelled with the bus one week to put on an original puppet show, "Big Bird's Birthday" at each of its stops. Thank you, ladies! Thanks go to Lucy Arent, Delight Olson, Macile Reinholdson, and Madge Sandgren for the chocolate chip cookies they baked for the June senior citizen program. Thanks also to Delight Olson, Nancy Rathbun, Macile Reinholdson, and Madge Sandgren for helping to serve. On June 3, Matthew Field~ firefighter for the Columbia Heights Fire Department, instructed the library staff on how to use fire extinguishers. We all got hands-on experience with the type of extinguisher owned by the library and learned about proper procedures in case of a fire. Good job, Matt! (Incidentally, Matt used to be the choreperson for the library in his younger days.) An open house was held on June 27 in honor of Ruth Miller's retirement from the Library Board. Over 100 people stopped in to wish her well, and she received three plaques (from the Library Board, City, and County Commissioners) and many cards and gifts. Thank you, Ruth, for your years of service and good luck in future endeavors. RENTS AND LEASES: #1[00 Swank Mo£[on P]ctur-es 3016064 "Bugs Bunny."
