The children's department sponsored eight sessions of Christmas crafts and Jo received
expert help from the Friends in some of them. Lots of children made ornaments and decorations
to take home for the holidays. The film "Santa and the 3 Bears" was shown on December 27 to
help alleviate the post-holiday let-down and before-school-starts-again boredom.
Thanks go to all the Friends of the Library for the amazing array of cookies they baked for
the December senior citizens' program. Once again all the bakers outdid themselves in making
such taste-tempting treats.
Mrs. Cone and her second graders put on a darling skit about their interpretation of the
Christmas legends, and Sister Clarinda accompanied then on the piano for singing some holiday
songs. Michael Reiners, son of Mr. and Mrs. lZadph Reiners, entertained the group with a
selection of carols played on the piano and a rendition of"Silent Night" sung in Gexman. Thanks
to all these people for making the day so special. Thanks also to Dorothe Holm, Lucille McPhail,
Ruth Miller, Evelyn Reinholdson, and Aileen Sturdevant for helping to serve.
At their December meeting, the Friends voted to buy the Library some wonderful things.
We have already received the hand truck, the plastic tube hangers and the "Old Lady Who
Swallowed a Fly" puppet. Thank you for all your hard work and your kind hearts.
The staff attended two meetings on automated circulation in December to give us a
general introduction as to what the systems can do. Several good questions were raised in the
process and were discussed.
The staff extends best wishes for a happy new year to you all.
