HomeMy WebLinkAboutJanuary 3, 1984COLUMBIA flEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY Report January 3, 1984 Circulation for the month of November is down from 1982: 1.982 1983 Adult 6,056 5,977 Juvenile 4,671 4,605 10,727 10,582 Considering that the library was open for three less days in 1983 than in 1482, this decline is not exceptional. LIBGIS statistics for November include 1,449 reference, 159 directional A, and 12 dLrectional B ques- tions. Based on a month with 23 working days, this means that the staff answered 63 reference, 6.91 directional A, and .52 directional B questions per day. The children's department sponsored seven sessions of Christmas crafts, two lot elementary-age (about 20 at each session), four for pre-school- age (about 25 at each session), and one for Tiny Tots (about 17). 'Phe Christmas tree in the basement was decorated with ornaments made by the children of the community. Thauks go to ali the Friends o£ the Library for the beautiful array cookies they baked ~or the December senior citizens' program. Each year the bakers seem to out-do themselves in the quality and variety of goodies provided. The Columbia Heights tligh School Swing Choir entertained us all with a delightful program of ballads, up-tempo songs, and Christmas music, and impressed us all with their maturity and musical talent. Thanks go to all of them and to Marie Eng, Evelyn Reinholdson, Loraine Reisewitz, Pauline Rusinyak, and Hadge Sandgren for helping to serve. The sta[i welcomes evening supervisor Kathy Brueggemann back from her O-months stay in Washingtou, I).C. Kathy will be back at the library on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The pages put in some extra hours over the holidays and worked like crazy at finishing up a lot of little projects. The record collection was cleaned, new labels were made for the bins, alphabetizing was worked on, book mending was at a fever pitch, and tons of books were moved around iu preparation for tbe ~nstal ]ation et [ifteen new sections of shelving in the adult reading room which provided 90 badly-needed shelves for the fiction collection. Thank you ail for the fine job. 1'he s~aff extends best wishes [or a happy new year to you all.
