In .~he Children's Department, the fall session of pre-school storyhour has drawn
to ~ close and registration has been heavy for the Christmas craft programs.
National Children's Book Week was celebrated November 14-18 with the theme "Books
are:"Best Friends." A special program for all ages of children was held on the
day after Thanksgiving with only 17 in attendance because of bad weather.
Thanks go to Marg Roback, Loretta Spindler, and Audrey Theiler for the pumpkin
bart they baked for the November senior citizen program. Thanks also go to Marie
Eng, Delight Olson, Macille Reinholdson, and Ruth Truckenbrod for helping to serve
refreshments. A special thanks goes to the Minnesota Association of Library
Friends and the Minnesota Humanities Commission in cooperation with the National
EndQwment to the Humanities, whose generous grant to the 1983 Chautauqua program
mada it possible for our audience to enjoy "Minnesota, a State of Mind" as pre-
sensed by Ross Sutter, Annette Atkins, and Bart Sutter. A lively program of
stories, poetry, songs, and dialogue described Minnesota's rich heritage in a
very enjoyable manner.
Thet. library will be running announcements on cable channel 16, which is the li--
brary's very own access channel. Current events, special programs, and general
infDrmation are updated each Friday, and eventually we hope to do some origination
programming. Stay tuned to channel 16 for future developments!
Thi~ month marks the end of twelve years of service to the library by trustee
Gay~e Norberg. Gayle's whole-hearted support has resulted in increased visibility
of library services in the community and a vastly-improved physical facility.
The staff thanks bi~ for his efforts i~ our behalf and wishes him the best in
the future.
ATTENTION FRIENDS
The annual Christmas celebration for senio~- citizens will be held at the library
on December 14. The Friends are being asked to donate two dozen cookies or bars
for~ the special treat on that day. Please bring your treat to the library by
2 p.m. on December 14. Thank you.
