Based on a month with 20 working days, this means that the staff answered 58.55 reference9 914 directional A, and .5 directional B ques- tions per day. The Children's Department has brought all its summer programs to a close and is taking a brief rest before fall programs start. 697 children participated in the various reading clubs, and parties were held on August 9 and August 16 for those who completed the requirements° 49 children and 14 adults attended the read-to- me party and 126 children attended the beginning/advanced party. Thanks go to l~argaret Anderson, Marie Hansen~ and Ellen Rosenthal for the zucchini bars they baked for the August senior citizen program. Thanks also go to Ann Booth~ Sandi Engquist, Faye Kluk, and Kay Reiners for helping to serve. The Sixth Annual Unannounced, Unadvertised Book Sale was held on August 18 and 19, and the Friends did an outstanding job of running the show. Final receipts tallied out at $594o93~ with the Friends taking home the lion's share. Thanks go to everyone, including our mini-Friends who helped move the books for making it a success. ' The Library hosted a luncheon in honor of the Friends on August 24. Lunch was served to 48 people~ and roses were given to each person as she entered. A door prize~ the centerpiece of the buffet table9 was won by Macile Reinholdson. A plaque presented to the Friends in appreciation of their gifts and service to the library, has been placed in the adult reading room° Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make the luncheon a success. An open house for the recently renovated Children's Department was held on August 31. About 60 people toured the library and joined the staff for refreshments. l~iss Lucille Hawkins, librarian in Columbia ~eights from 1933-1966, was a special guest, and a photograph of bet was added to the plaque display at the entrance to the children's room. Cable tv was here filming, and a program will be broadcast within the next few weeks.
