HomeMy WebLinkAboutNovember 3, 1982COLUI'~BIA HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT November 3~ 19~2 Circulation for the month of September was up from 19~1: 1981 1982 Adult 5~183 5~774 Juvenile 3~O 4~175 ~353 9~949 LIBGIS statistics for the month of September included 973 reference~ 157 direc- tional A~ and 22 directional B questions. Based on a month with 24 w~rking days~ this means that the staff answered 40.54 reference~ 6.54 directional A~ and .92 directional B questions per day° The children's department started pre-school story hour~ with 95 children regis- tered for the 3½-5 year-old sections and 50 registered for the 2~-3~ year-old section. The art class~ sponsored by the Recreation Department and taught by the I~innesota ?~useu~n of Azt~ has also started. Thanks go to the Friends of the Library for the doughnuts they provided for the October senior citizen program. Thanks also go to l~arie Eng~ Ruth i~iller~ Evelyn Reinholdson~ and ~adge Sandgren for helping to serve. Rita Norberg~ May Reiners~ Aileen Sturdevant~ and ~ary attended the annual Friends Conference in Bloomington on the 15th. They ca~e back with some inter- esting ideas and lots of brochures. A display of the local Friends' activities was taken along~ as well as samples of the cookbook. Jo and Darlene attended the Book Fair at the University of Minnesota on the 27th and selected many books for inclusion in the children's collection. Becky attended a management seminar at the Earle Brown Continuing Education Institute on the 27th. Jo and Becky visited Bookmen on the 1st and came back loaded down with new paperbacks and extra copies of high-demand items. Tom Breviu, Terry Lovaas, and Mark Newman-Scott from Group W Cable attended a staff meeting and discussed the library's part in programming for cable television. Becky also met with Jerry Young and Bev Flaherty from the Anoka County Library on the 20th. They discussed budgeting~ cable television~ and possible coopera- tion in rotating specialized sections of the two book collections. Another meeting, set for November 4 at Fridley~ will include Dennis Shanley from the Anoka Public Library. The library will be closed on Thursday~ November 11~ in observance of Veterans' Day, and Thursday~ November 25, in observance of Thanksgiving Day. ATTENTION FRIENDS: The annual Christmas celebration for senior citizens will be held at the library on December 8th. The Friends are being asked to donate 2 dozen cookies or bars for the special treat on that day. Please call either Pauline Rusinyak (788-8924) or Kay Reiners (571-4139) with your contribution.
