Circulation figures for a single month have not hit these heights since June, 1972, when 1981 1982 Adult 5~430 6,016 Juvenile 6~002 8,440 Book Bus 1,198 1,12P '12,630 -15,562 16,464 books were checked out. That averages out to 7OS books checked out per day. LIBGIS statistics for the month of June included 1,315 reference, 252 directional A, and 26 directional B questions. Based on a month with 22 working days, this meant that the staff answered 59.77 reference, 11.45 directional A~ and 1.81 directional B questions per day. The circulation for the summe{ Book Bus schedule included: June 23 ..... 562 June 30 ..... 564 July 7 ..... 479 July 14 ..... 542 July 21 ..... 232 (1/2 day only) July 28 ..... 403 2,78~ total items 1982 marked the third successful year for the Book Bus. Thanks go to Jo, Ed Geslin, John Tiggas, [-fary, Darlene, Gloria, Dale, and the pages for making it work. The children's department is having a wild and crazy summer. Seven weeks of Thursday afternoon filmstrip programs have brought in numerous children each week. At least 80 children were transformed into some pretty strange- looking beings when face-painting was offered on July 6. The chalk drawing competition on the 13th was delightful, with the winners from each differ- ent age category having some real stiff competition. Each of the 78 participants was assigned one block of the sidewalk to decorate. Entries were judged by f~ary Kloss and Sharon Hagen on the basis of creativity, use of space, and design. A game day on the 2Oth featured relay races and games of all kinds for 82 participants. The puppet shows, which included "The gunniwolf," "Go away, dog~" "Ernie plays the drums,~' and "Puppet talent show," on the 27th drew 61 interested observers. The craft program sponsored by the Recreation Department also drew to a close after four weeks of kites, puppets, masks, and flowers. From February through June, Gloria has sent out 53 warning letters~ 24 attorney letters~ 11 second warning letters, and only 7 final notices. This means all her hard work is not in vain because we are getting back our materials. (For all you data fans, that figures out to an ~7% return on the letters sent out.) The library's Fifth Annual Unannounced, Unadvertised Book Sale will take place August 19 and 20 from 9 - 4:30° Approximately one zillion items will be offered for your perusal and ultimate purchasing pleasure. The Friends will once again be in charge of the cash box~ and we have it on the best authority that they will make deals...especially from 3:30- 4:30 p.m. on the 20th. Joey Staubus has left the library as of July 30 to continue her education at the U. of I~. The staff wishes her the best in her future endeavors.
