HomeMy WebLinkAboutApril 6, 1982COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY Report April 6, 1982 Circulation data for February showed an increase from last year: 1981 1982 Adult 5,429 5,955 Juvenile 4,O31 4,229 9,460 10,184 LIBGIS statistics included 1,135 reference, 211 directional A, and 25 directional B questions for the month. Based on 23 working days in February, this meant that the staff answered 49.35 reference, 9.17 directional Ag and 1.O9 direc£ional B questions per day. The children's department wound up the winter sessions of preschool story hour and Tiny Tots. The Read-to-Me Club was extremely successful again and drew 123 registrants. Ail 123 read at least five books which qualified them to put a marker on the bulletin board and was the first time Jo had 1OO% participation in a reading club. 102 children completed the club's requirements and attended the celebration held for them on March 31 when "The many adventures of Winnie the Pooh" was shown. This movie was also shown to the public at 4:00 p.m. Mrs. Berulson's Girl Scout troop, which was working on a library badge~ attended a presentation given by ~liss Jo on March 24. A puppet show on March 18 featured the Muppets in a variety of shows, "Charlie Brown Loses a Library Book," "Winnie the Pooh Plants a Garden," and audience participation in "The Mixed-Up Easter Bunny." Two preschool groups taught by Mrs. Skone and Mrs. Blinkman of the Columbia Heights Recreation Department came for field trips on March 25. Thanks go to Marie Eng and Lee Wilkie for the cinnamon nut bundt cake they baked for the March senior citizen program. Thanks also go to Marie Eng, Dorothy Linsey, Janie Pulley, and Lee Wilkie for helping to serve refreshments. The spring Community Education classes started the week of March 22. Metropolitan University held an informational meeting on the 23rd for adults who are considering returning to college. Carol Fuller, Anoka County Literacy Council, conducted training sessions for volunteer tutors on four consecutive ~onday nights. Applications for replacing the library's five graduating pages will be taken up through April 23. Applicants must be at least 15% years of age and willing to work after school and during the summer. Applications can be picked up at the library during regularly-scheduled working hours.
