The children's department helped the community's children get into the holiday
spirit. Christmas crafts, divided into four different age groups, provideH 126 children
with holiday items to take home. On December 10, a special program was held with
Christmas songs and stories, and forty-five children made decorations for the library's
Christmas tree, which was on display in the children's department throughout December.
A special visit by Santa Claus highlighted the tree-trimming party.
Thanks go to all the Friends of the Library for the absolutely astounding cookies
and bars they baked for the December senior citizen program. Thanks also go to Julie
Koch and her daughters, Elizabeth and Naomi, for the musical program they provided.
And, last but not least, our thanks to Emma Ketterling, Faye Kluk, Ruth Miller, Steph-
anie Rose, Ellen Rosenthal, and Pauline Rusinyak, who arranged the cookie trays and
served 'the seventy-three people in attendance.
The Friends were honored at a tea on December 7 in appreciation of the outstanding
service they rendered to the library over the past year. President Pat Jindra was
presented with a framed resolution passed in their honor by the Columbia Heights Public
Library Board of Trustees and a cash box for use in their future endeavors. About
thirty Friends enjoyed cake and refreshments served by the library staff. Thanks
again to a great bunch of people.
The staff of the library joins in wishing everyone the very best for the coming
new year.
