The Children's Department celebrated National Children's Book Week November 16-20, with the theme "Let the Book Bug Bite." Three special field trips for nursery schools were hosted during the week. A special program for children was held on the day after Thanksgiving to enable parents to do a little unattended Christmas shopping. A mending workshop was held on November 6 for the adult staff members and two guests. Different techniques of mending were demonstrated and participants had a chance for hands-on experience. The winning entries in the name-the-library'.s-new-newsletter contest were: Adult: The Sampler. Juvenile: The Bookworm Gazette. The winners were chosen from over 25 entries. Thanks go to the Friends of the Library for the brownies they baked for the November senior citizen program. Becky and Jo met with Pauline Rusinyak and Marie Eng during the month and had the great pleasure of spending the hard- earned money which the Friends had ear-marked for the library's use. The order for a gorgeous a-v cabinet was placed and confirmation of the order has already been received. A preliminary thank-you goes to a great bunch of ladies. The staff honored Carol Uden at an early-morning breakfast on November 17. Carol will be living on campus next quarter and will be unable to continue working. We wish her well, and extend our welcome to Lisa Condos as her replacement. The library is in the midst of a construction project. The leaky roof is being rplaced and hopefully will end all our water problems. The staff extends the warmest wishes for a happy holiday season and a peaceful new year.
