In the children's department, story hour is in full swing. Tiny Tots, for children 2~-3~ years of age, has started on October 15th, and 42 children are registered. The week before Halloween, the children came to story hour in their costumes and had a parade through the building at the end of the program. On the 26th, 51 elementary-age participants made Halloween masks and listened to scary stories. During MEA week, the movie "Ride a Wild Pony" was shown to 263 people. Thanks go to Ruth Miller, Kathy Olson, Evelyn Reinholdsen, and Loretta Spindler for the mock German chocolate cakes they baked for the October senior citizens' program. The next program will be on Thursday, November 12 because the library will be closed November 11 in observance of Veterans' Day. The Friends have voted to purchase a cabinet for the library's collection of filmstrips. Jo and Becky will select the one most appropriate for the collection, and it will be ordered soon. Jo and Becky went to Bookmen on October 8 and stocked up on paperbacks, pasteboard and cloth books, and some extra copies of high-demand items. The 'first edition of the library's monthly newsletter is hot off the press and in need of a name. The library is sponsoring a "Name-the-New-Newsletter', contest through November 20. Entry forms are available at the desk in the main floor lobby, and people may enter as many times as they wish. The Phantom Reader will be the judge, and the December issue will feature the new name for the first time. The winner will be able to select a prize from those on display in the lobby. Hurry in with your entries! Good news! The library's roof will be repaired before the first of December. Wes Hendrickson of TKDA & Associates has also met with 3o and Becky to discuss the basement renovations and will be bringing in preliminary designs soon. Jo and Darlene attended the annual Book Fair at the University of Minnesota on the 22nd and were a little disappointed. There were fewer books than in previous years~ and one of the reviewers commented only on the art in the various books. Carol Uden will be living on-campus at Concordia next quarter, and so the library is looking for a new page beginning in the latter part of November. Applicants must be at least 15~ years of age and willing to work evening hours. Interested people may pick up applications at the library. Bob Murray will be leaving his position as Community Education Coordinator on November 6 to join the administration of community education in Southern Washington County. The staff appreciates the work he has done in conjunction with the library and wishes him well in his future endeavors.
