Jo commented that she believes the drop in the children's circulation was due to different
requiremems for the reading Club. The June LIBGIS statistics were:
Reference Directional A Directional B
652 779 72
The rise in Directional A questions (up from 442 in May) was due to the number of children
signing up for .the Reading Club.
The children's department sponsored a puppet workshop July 27 and 28, with about
thirty-five children making papier-mache puppets of the Peanuts characters. Three filmstrips
festivals on July 8, 13, and 20 drew crowds of about 130 children. The Book Bus completed its
last run July 22~a, and circulation for the six weeks topped the 2,972 mark. Our thanks go to Mr.
Ed Geslin for his role as the bus driver for the second year. The pet show on July 16 had thirty-
five entrants in the various categories and drew an audience of about 60. Remm from Witch
Mountain.'. was shown to about 200 people on the 21st and The Sting to about thirty-five on the 9*.
Thanks go to Harriet Deeble, JoAnn nelson Gladys Spenny, and Peggy Stefansky for the
banana chiffon cakes they baked for the July senior citizen program.
On July 18 the flag pole in front of the library was dedicated to the memory of their
parents by Peter Ulmaniec, Helen Merrick, Valefie Sramek, and Stephanie Rose. About 45
people joined in the ceremony and reception aRerwards.
Becky returned from the ALA conference in San Francisco with lots of ideas and news on
the new developments in the field. It appears that video discs will be very important in the libaries
of the future, but there is still a lot of emphasis on the printed word.
