Beginning September 6, the library is open every Saturday from 9 a,m. to
1 p.m., and Kathy Brueggemann and Gary Nygaard will be alternating weeks as
supervisors. The Recreation Department will be sponsoring a series of children's
films on Saturday mornings, and the first one, "The magic pony," was shown to
83 children on September 20 in the basement of the library.
Immaculate Conception School is again using the library to supplement its
library collection, and the classes are using the building on a scheduled basis.
The Friends sent three representatives with Mary to the conference in
Mankato on September 23. Pat Jindra, Helen Merrick, and Aileen Sturdevant
participated in the sessions and got a chance to examine the headquarters of
Traverse des Sioux Library System. They commented on the opulence of the
building and on the improved organization of the conference. The Friends also
experienced success with the "Luncheon is Served" program they sponsored on
September 25 with about 135 people in attendance. The Friends will be selling
coffee and cookies at the series of noon movies at the library starting on
October 7. With a starting time of 12:00 noon, the following movies will be
sho~n: "The open window."
"Special effects."
"Marx Brothers and W.C. Fields festival."
"African animal hunt."
Feel free to come for as long as you can. Total running time is approximately
one hour.
Thanks go to Lucie Arent, Joyce Peterson, Nancy R~thbun, and Ruth Wester-
berg for baking peanut butter/chocolate chip cakes for the September senior
citizen program.
The City Council met with the Library Board on the 15th to discuss the
budget. The Council generously ear-marked a one-time additional $8,000 for
the purpose of expanding the reference collection and certain subject areas
within the circulating collection. Their support is greatly appreciated,
