REPORT
May 6, 1980
March and April brought two more increases in circulation for the
library:
March April..
1§80 Adult 5,815 Juvenile 4,560 1980 Adult 5,386 Juvenile 3,909
1979 Adult 5,354 Juvenile 4,682 1979 Adult 4,923 Juvenile 4,153
461 -122 ~ -244
Net increase: 339 Net increase: 219
These increases are small, but even a small increase is still an increase.
During the month, the children's department sponsored a three-week
craft program for pre-schoolers and drew 60-80 children each week. Several
field trips for nursery schools also were held during April. The long-
awaited birth of seven kittens on April 21 definitely took the spotlight as
the most exciting event of the month. The mother cat and all her babies may
be seen, but not touched, under the circulation desk in the basement. If
you are interested in a kitten, call Jo at 788-3924 soon because there are
only two who still need good homes.
In'celebration of National Library Week, April 14-18, the library
held two drawings for prizes. The winners were:
Lois Kuhn a copy of the book Donahue by Phil Donahue
Natasha Broulliard a cassette/book edition of Bambi
Thanks go to Frdends Nancy Rathbun, Kay Reiners, Gladyce Spenny,
and Peg Stefansky for the cherry chocolate chip torte they baked for the
April senior citizen program. The Friends also had great success with their
bake sale held at the April 17 "Communicating: You, Me, & Us program at
Central Junior High. The baking was impressive and delicious. Congratula-
tions, ladies.
The library's meeting rooms were used for a census takers' training
session and a teacher/administrator workshop held by the school district.
The meeting rooms will be experiencing a higher demand because the closing
of Shoppers' City will displace many local clubs from their regular meeting
places.
Mary began working with Mark Fisher on an Eagle Scout project in-
volving a bulk loan station at Heights Manor. Mark will construct a book
shelf/book station at the high rise and solicit donations of paperbacks to
set up a resident permanent collection which will be supplemented by materials
on loan from the library.
Darlene Saba joined the staff on April 2 as the library's new clerk-
typist, and we all join in welcoming her to the library. Three of the pages
will graduate in the spring, and Becky is in the process of finding replace-
ments for them.
