HomeMy WebLinkAboutNovember 8, 1978 REPORT COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY November 8, 1978 The children's department has had a busy month. Pre-school stoKy-hour is in full swing now, and there is a total enrollment of 99 children for the three scheduled days. Attendance has been very good, and judging from the number of babies accompanying the mothers, attendance will be risino over the next few years. Jo's halloween party on October 24, with over 260 costumeJ participants, has to be one of her all-time best-attended events. A lot of hard work has gone into the carnival games and the witch's cave, which entertained the kids while their cos- tume~ were hein~ judged. Thanks are due to Jo, Marilyn, the pages, Marie Hanson, the eighth graders from Immaculate Conception School, and the other volunteers who have helped make the party a success. The pages have worked some extra hours durinq the MEA recess this month, and they have been finishing up some special projects left over from last summer. The end of the quarter for the school system is also approaching, so they will have some extra time to work and finish up the rest of their projects. Kathy, one of the library's evening supervisors, has attended a Minnesota legal sources workshop, which has been sponsored by the Anoka County Library~ and she has brought back several items to be added to our reference files. Ma~v and Becky have attended a workshop on teen-aoers and librar.v services to teens. They both feel that some valuable informatio~ has been presented in the workshop, but that much more could have been done with the subject matter. The Library Board has formulated a new policy concerning materials and loan periods, and it will go into effect November lq 1978. The loan period for regular materials will be three weeks, with best sellers and hiqh-demand books being loaned for one week at a time. The most-current issues of magazines will no longer circulate, but certain reference books will still be loaned for three days at a time. Fines will increase to 5¢ per day on reaular materials and lO~ per day on materials with restricted loan periods. The new fines will effect only those materials checked out either on or after November first. Plans for the 50th Anniversary of the library are progressing. Please let Becky know if you have any ideas for adding to the celebration. RENTS AND LEASES: #llO0 Association Films, Inc. Swank Univ. of Minn.
