Report
October 3, 1978
Immaculate Conception School is using the library again this year to
supp)ement the school's small library. A schedule has been set up so that
the students may come on a regular basis with teacher supervision. Faith
Academy, the school associated with Oak Hill Baptist, is also using the
library's facilities on a scheduled basis.
The air conditioner for the lobby of the lib;~ary is currently being
installed. The mess will be worth it when warm weather comes again next
summer, -
The Anoka County Library is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this
month. The library staff extends its congratulations for the past twenty
years and its best wishes for the next twenty.
The Governor's Pre-White House Conference on Library and Information
Services was a great success. The two hundred delegates worked on eighty
resolutions and elected ten delegate representatives to take the resolutions
to the national convention in November, 1979. Resolutions being taken to
Washington, D.C., include: support of free access to information, establish-
ment of state standards for library service, establishment of a state agency
for disbursement of grant monies, etc.
Don Jol:nson, from school district 13, used the library as the site of a
workshop on mainstreaming for SLBP (Slow Learning and Behavioral Problems),
EMR (Educable Mentally Retarded), and TMR (Teachable Mentally Retarded)
teachers and administrators in the district. The participants also had a
chance to look over the library and to see what materials and programs are
available for their use. One of the library's meeting rooms is currently
used by the SLBP teacher for Imn~aculate Co:~ception School students, and the
library is pleased to help out with th~s service.
Pre-school story hour will start October 2, 1978. In addition, the
library is acting as a distribution point for Picturepages, Captain Kangaroo's
new program for pre-schoolers. Captain Kangaroo's daily television program
will incorporate the exercises illustrated Tn Picturepages, and children will
Se able to work along with him at hame. Starting October 2, Picturepages
will be distributed each week for free to patrons by the library. The staff
is enthusiastic about this new project and encourages parents of pre-schoolers
to participate.
The library's new employees are all working hard. Mary recently attended
a film selection workshop to help her in choosing films for the senior citizen
program. Cary and Kathy have both been working some extra hours so that the
City Council can use the library for meetings while City Hall is being remodelled.
