REPORT
September 5, 1978
This has been a busy month at the library.
Jo has finished her summer programs and is starting to work on her winter schedule
of events. There were 74 pets registered for the pet show, and the Friends of the
Library again supplied the valiant judges who awarded red and blue ribbons for the
outstanding pets. Three weeks of crafts for pre-schoolers were also well-attended.
Registration for fall pre-school story hour will begin in September, and registra-
tions may be taken over the phone. The reading club ended with a gigantic party
for all the readers who had completed the requirements for the different age groups.
120 children attended the carnival and saw the movie, "Snoopy Come Home." Top
readers were: Advanced:
Russ Vincent (100 books}
Beginning:
Rory Terrell (300 books)
Kevin Thomson {260 books}
Kristen Honl {240 books)
David Ptak (240 books)
Congratulations to the readers and thanks to the merchants who supplied the prizes.
The movie "Roustabout" was shown on August 16, on the anniversary of Elvis Presley's
death. About 30 people showed up to eat popcorn and watch the movie.
In preparation for the fall season, the library has purchased lots of new records
and paperbacks. They are available now to be checked out for autumn reading.
Becky is a delegate to the Governor's Pre-White House Conference on Library and
Information Service in September, and she recently attended an orientation meeting
and a caucus of delegates Mo are public librarians. This conference (do not be
scared by the long name) will result in resolutions about libraries which will be
presented at President Carter's conference on libraries in 1979. If you have any
concerns you would like to have brought up at the conference, contact Becky, and
she will present them during the meetings.
Fall schedule will begin the week after Labor Day, with September gth being the
first Saturday the library will be open. There will be five new employees at the
library this fall:
Denise Becket, page
Carol Uden, page
Kathy Brueggemann, evening supervisor
Cary Griffith, evening supervisor'
Mary Glauner, adult paraprofessional
The staff wishes them all a warm welcome. The two new pages are replacing Sharon
Stella and Mary Askwith, who have left the library for bigger and better things,
and the staff wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors. As of this
month, Jo has been on the staff 12 years. Her work with the children has been
outstanding, and the library commends her highly for her contributions to the
community.
