COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY
REPORT
January 10, 1978
Despite the children's complete lack of interest in books during December,
the circulation for 1977 was more than 1000 more than in 1976. With a dismal
circulation in December, January has started with a bang. January 3rd's
count was 747. This is an all time high for the first of January. We were
busy all week.
Mr. Young informed us that the state has a contract with Denco for purchas-
ing library supplies, so any purchases we make there before March we will
receive 21.5% discount. This should stretch our supply budget and needless
to say, we have ordered most of our supplies for 1978. There will still be
craft and copy machine supplies to purchas~ as well as maintenance supplies.
We have ordered the card tables for the library and are readying the publicity
for a possible hobby show here at the library. The Sun has agreed to write
a piece and we are putting posters around. Word of mouth works the best, if
we can'g~t.the word started.:
We sent notices January 1st about delinquent fines and have received a good
return. There were very few complaints (due to good record keeping) and
people seemed to still have money after Christmas.
Mrs. Miller is helping with refreshments for Senior Citizens this month.
Hopefully, the cold weather will let up.
The library is well on its way to having a good New Year.
