HomeMy WebLinkAboutFebruary 4, 1975 CHPL Report February 4, 1975 The staff was gratified to see the increase in use of the libraries by adults in 1974 but not surprised to see the (~rop (n the use of children's books. With the large decline of enrollment of the parochial school and child population in Columbia Heights in general, it was a condition to be expected. Therefore, the staff and particularly the childr~.n's program coordinator believed that the work with children could be intensified and redirected to more children participation. Jo's winter programs for children after school have been a fantastic success. Her first pet show listed 55 dogs and any number of other smaller creatures. People old and young took part, and the Friends of the Library did a marvelous job of judging. They certainly are a wonderful addition to our activities. The next week she had the Como Park Zoo bring out some rather disappointing exhibits but the participation and interest was tremendous. For her craft project, she had about 250 small people sitting on the floor doing decoupage with mothers and staff helping. Today we expect her filmstrip show of children's books to be as well-attended as the Walt Disney movie, which had about 300 children. The book orders have been coming in more steadily, and we are about caught up on the current books we can offer. The pre-school story hours are especially well-attended, even on threatening days, and there is still a waiting list for the three times a week sessions. The mothers seem to enjoy their rap sessions. The future objectives of the staff include hopes for more room for additional group functions.
