HomeMy WebLinkAboutJuly 3, 1974COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT JULY3, 1974 Last week for two days the Library was surveyed by a finn hired by the State of Minnesota Library Division. All expenditures of Columbia Heights Public Library were accounted for the five year period from 1969 through 1974. Some interesting statistics were unearthed and a copy of the survey will be sent to us. Also some suggestions from the surveyor's own observations in other libraries. Our library was chosen rather at random and because it is the largest independent library not belonging to any system or region. She seemed to be favorably impressed. The attendance for the summer programs has been remarkably good this summer except for a couple of very stormy days. However the ones that came these days seemed to feel safe and secure. Pauline is sadly missed and we're looking forward to August 15th when her replacement will be here. We're sure that Becky will be a real addition to the staff with new ideas for better performance. For the movie last week the college girls took charge and did a fine job. About 250 children attended. Jo was on vacation but everything went smoothly. The young people, who were supported by the County., Tim Yantos sent over, are working out very well. The boy particularly (George Kordiak) is a willing and responsible helper. The chores are taken care of promptly. Letters were sent out to patrons having accumulated $.75 in fines, hopefully, to make them aware that the book drop is policed. One of the girls comes in weekends to attend to the book drop. The Friends of the Library again helped with the refreshments for the Senior Citizens and with the decorations in the Children's room. Our "Storyland" has quite a reputation.
