HomeMy WebLinkAboutDecember 6, 1972Columbia Heights Public Library Report - December 6, 1972 This has been a busy ~all, but I guess we're just getting used to it or we are better equipped te handle it, The circulation for November is up about 1,OOO volumes agai~ this month; though December, with its plentiful supply of snow, promises to be ~ts usual quiet time around the library. How- ever we have a few projects that should keep us busy until January. For one thing, we will be sending out our regular semi-yearly notices of accumulated fines to the patrons who have more than 75¢ due. This gets to be a larger task every year, but it does remind patrons that it doesn'tpay to put overdue books in the book drop and we always get enough money back to pay the postage. The front s$eps .to the basement are underway and already we have reaped some benefit. The front door of the library is not accessible now so the school bus no longer stops in front of the library and disgorges noisy stomp- ing teenagers on their way home. We don't seem to have lost any of our in- terested patrons and we're certainly looking forward to the use of this entry. Miss Jo has perparations well advance~ for the Christmas programs. There will be five the week before Christmas--a very timely puppet show that she has written herself, Our Book Week book sale was not a great su$cess. We didn't lose any books and we more than broke even, but we also didn't sell very many--Possi- bly 150 or 200. If we ever tried this again we would ourselves choose the material for sale because, confidentially, we are sure we know ~etter what people in Columbia Heights like to buy. The bills that have been contracted for before December 1st will be pay- able in January under the 1972 budget, so we will be meeting early in January to take care of this chore. We certainly will miss, Mr. Norberg and we hope that he along with the rest will manage to have a very rewarding Christmas.
