Report - Novembe~ l, 1972
October is a busy time. Our circulation is holdLug fairly steady. This
year~s October circulation is about 13,O00; last year's was a little over 12,OOO.
Evenings are busy with adults and older students.
We've added a small collection of children's records that are very popular.
The records are stories taken from the books we own. They seem to contribute
to the interest in books.
The safe has come for the visual aid equipment. It could use some better
locks. It does help with our storage problems, however. The office looks
less like a closet.
~n inspiration came to us for Children's Book Week. We investigated the
possibilities and have decided on a Book Fair and sale of Children's hard cover
and paper covered books. It seems an ideal way to do our Christmas shopping.
Five of the staff attended the University of Minnesota Book Fair. This
is an annual eveSwhere we get acquainted with new books and hear a children's
author. This year we heard Mrs. Beverly Cleary--the very popular author of
Henry Huggins. We're always delighted to attend this function and find out
how many of the books we already have.
The 1973 budget was approved by the Council as proposed by the Board. We
have a good liaison man.
Mr. Young of the Anoka County Library was in the library last week to
discuss the next year's agreement. There wasn't any particular points of dif-
ference and he promised to have an agreement for us to sign by the next meet-
ing. The ~LSA funds are still uncertain, but will be available to Columbia
Heights as soon as they are available to Anmka County is putting out bids for
book jobbers and may go over to Monarch and if they do, we can expect a
slightly larger discount, also.
The added parking facilities have really been a blessing! No more traffic
directing on Story Hour mornings. Every year things seem to be a little more
functional.
