Report - July 12, 1972
Cireulati0n is holding up even better than usual this summer. Monday
there were 999 books out of the library. The story hours and puppet club are
still popular.
The movie Bi$ Red was shown twice on Monday, June 26~. The first showing
there were about 300 children and we had to ask some to wait for ~e second
showing. The next showing there were only about 200. We learned some things:
preschool children are better off with their parents or at home and a limit
has to be put on the trips to the lavatory. Otherwise it ~as a huge success
and we are going to try it again this month, showing Poll~anna on July 24m with
three showings.
We had an unpleasant surprise with the maintenance of the air condition-
ing system. We had some amateur help and some errors in judgment so we ended
up with a ruined compressor on the old side of the library and a frozen unit
on the other side. We feel that some regular professional maintenance in the
spring may save us some further disastrous bills.
It seems practical to review our budget requests this month so that we
might be prepared for a meeting with the Council next month. Possibly we can
pass on a proposal before that time.
Just before the movie on June 26m the projector balked--but Mr. ~randjean
to the rescue. We think we are all set now for the Senior Citizens' program
and the next movie,
We now have lO16 non-resident users of our library--about ~ from Fridley,
and the rest from Minneapolis, New B~ighton, Hilltop, and a few from Hennepin
County.
The books ordered through Anoka County are coming in very slowly. Pro-
bably try and get them to use our jobber.
And so on and on. It's wonderful to have the air conditioning working
again. Something to be really thankful for.
