HomeMy WebLinkAboutApril 13, 1971Columbia Heights Public Library Report - April 13 The l~brariama invested in about three hundred paperback editions of wsrthWh~le shildren*~ l~ks. the some of them l~e have ~u hard cover, and before we could ~t a rack ~or them they were all in ei~eulation. There is something fascinating about paperbacks for shildren. We ~ound a jobber who would give us 20% off on them amd they cost us an averag~ of about zixty cents a pieqe. May- be the interes~ in these ~ooks will .arry o~e~ into hard cover books. Some of them are ~really done well. The librarian and Pauline attended a seminar on books for Senior Citi- zens and found that the programs here at Columbia Heights are ahead of everyone else in the state except possibley St. Paul after whom we patterned our pro- grams. However, we did get some i~eas for making our sessions more interesting. The week ~efore Easter has been very quiet, but still not as quiet as last year. March'm~.eirculation record was 14,O76, 2441 more than last year. However, now that warme~esthe~ has come we may get a slight breather. We are studying the possibility of investing ia racks for the adult paper back books, too, It ~ould give us about twenty-four more shelves for non- fiction books and would be considsrably less expensive than purchasing new shelves. Also it would make for a more attractive collection. The library is about to receive some donations from some of the orga- nizations in Columbim Heights and a suggestion was forwarded for making a junior lounge in the children's room in orde~ to make it as inviting as the adult side. Mrs. Warge has said she will give us decorating advice so we don't mix up the decor. Also we are antieipa~inE rewenue from the sale of discarded or donated books durin~ ~amboree week. We hope its a reading week. Good raking te everyone.
