Report - January 6, 1971
This is an anxious and confused time! The process of getting all the
Columbia Heights Library users to have cards in their home libraries is a com-
plicated task. Minneapolis, Anoka County, and Ramsey County have all sent us
forms and literature to facilitate the transition and have been most cooperative.
We still have lots of books to take out and we ~ll get all the patron cards
straightened out eventually. It's important that. this is done so that we get
credit for all the non-resident users in the MELSA agreement.
December's circulation did not drop to the low that usually occurs near
Christmas. It was gratifying to see so many adults still reading at this busy
time.
The story hours are again in session and are bulging. According to our
agreement with the County, we can keep our programs to our own community and
they are all full without any outsiders.
The librarians have worked out a theme for the summer programs and are
preparing sunken treasures to be found in books. The children's room will be
an6~underwater illusion.
Two thousand eight hundred and thirty-three new books were added to the
collection in 1970. By next month we should have a complete report on all
library statistics including receipts and expenditures as well as l~st and dis-
carded books.
The Christmas puppet show was well attended. There was a special show-
ing for the Immaculate Conception first graders and they will be using the
library now.
The book week contest ended in a tie. The children identified books
from the puzzles that were on the bulletin board.
Well the year is starting on a booming note and we expect it to be a
busy and interesting year. Library week and art exhibits coming up.
