Report - January, 197].
The increased circulation this winter i~; a source of wonder and pleasure
~o 2he slaffo PossiBly we can lay it to the weather and the fact that there
have been no severe storms so far, January, 1971, was about 2000 more than
January a year ago and ~e have ~ot [lad too many new ~on-resident user~.
The coordination with MELSA-connected libraries is 6oing smoothly.
one seems eager to cooperate in making it simple for non-resident users.
of whom have never had any other library card than the one from Columbia
Heights.
Every-
Many
Anoka County Library has made some suggestions for coordinating the
Summer Reading Progreu~s in the county and Jo Scudder met with the child~en's
librarians from Anoka County and the City of ~okao She was able to make me.ny
suggestions to them for facilitatin6 and up-gradin~ their program, s. She
offered to share with them ~opies of material, used here in Columbia Heights,
but did not promise to duplicate their progr.'ems. [~n s~>~te of their larger
budgets they did not feel able to duplicate our programs.
Clarence, the clown, left from our su~er program, has been loaned to the
primary grades at immaculate Conception School. They are 6etting quite a re-
sponse from the students who 1ewe to read to him. He is the ideal listener--
never says a word ~d never makes any corrections.
Anoka County Library has been able to fill m~y of our requests 9%r
interlibrary l~aun. This certainly s~eeds up the process. If the books turn
out to be ones of general interest we try to buy them oursel.~es.
The 8~ graders at Columbia Junior High are beginning their projects on
countries. There is lots of materia] here for them ~ they are looking for it.
lie will want some extra help when th~ desperate ottes come for the final week
of the project.
