This has been an unprecedented Septem]~er here at the library.
The circulation is the highest it has ever been in September.' The p~o-
grams are all over subscribed and things are humping, excei>t that our
book orders are coming in very slowly. We may have to change ~obb~rs.
Possibly theywill all come during December when we are less bus2~.
The Minneapolis Library reports that there are 322 card holders there
from Columbia Heights and we have had 191 Minneapolis users here--a dif-
ference of 131 or ~l,310--much less than the expected g3,O00. Most of
the Minneapolis users are quite regular and it would be interesting to know
how often the Columbia Iteights folks used their Minneapolis cards.
The contract service for cleaning fired the two high school boys who
were doing the cleaning (?) (and theiving) here. In their place is a
middle-aged man who is doing a fine job. It certainly starts our day off
especially pleasantly to come into a clean building.
f~s a result of the enterprise of the puppet club this stur~er there
were three puppet shows this fall. They were well-rece3.~ed, at least
one hundred people attending each one. Miss Theresa St a'%lun from St. Cath-
erin~"~ College, c~ne to watch for ideas.
· ~ group of nineteen have registered for a Christmas craft class on
Medr~asday evenings. The Art Clut~ is in full swing again.
There are eighteen classes from Immaculate Conception School using
the facilities for library periods on a bi-weekly basis--nine classes a
week. They fit their schedules in with ours and mostly wait on themselves.
Ue have twenty-three volunteers coming in each week working about
two-and-a-half hours each. They are very regulaP and responsible and con-
tribute a great deal to the function of the library. Many of these folks
attend Immaculate Conception. !;e think it is a pleasant cooperative
operation.
