Report - August 26, 1970
Our smmner has been a real success. L~e have had more than 500 children
registered for our reading club~more than any other library in the county.
The puppet club is presenting three puppet shows this fall on Saturday morn-
ings and ~,~r. Levy donated 50 passes for the 50 folks who have read the most
books this summer. The children will be delighted with ~his extra treat.
The library is getting ready for fall, sch~du!es, The story hour regis-
trations are coming in ~apidly, but we are anxious that no one misses who
wants to take part.
School District ;,~1~ is taking the new teachers on a guided bus tour this
Wednesday and we have invited them to visit the library. It would be well
to have them aware of the facilities. Other years we have spoken to them at
teachers' meetings, but this seems as though it might be more effective.
Anyway, ~e are busy doing a cleaning job in anticipation of guests.
Miss Flaspeter, a librarian at the University of Minnesota, will again
be supervising on Thursday evenings and giving us suggestions on improving
the collection. She worked with children's programs at the St. Paul Public
Library and has helped us initiate some of our programs.
522 new patrons have registered at the library during June, July, and
August.
A subscription to the Educators Progress series of free material has
netted the library a great deal of new material for the vertical file s~nd
film strips for adult progr~ns.
The senior citizens progre~ns have grown to such an extent that they are
even out-growing the large room. It would be nice if they were able to use
the do~znstairs.
School will soon be starting again and some of the staff will be taking
vacations between program schedules. Hope you have had a fine summer. This
one has been especially hot and we are eternally grateful (though we some-
times forget to mention it and remember how it was before).
