HomeMy WebLinkAboutJuly 22, 1970Columbia Heights Public Library Report - July 22 It is very pleasin~ ~ find the interest holding in our summer programs. In spite of the heat (when it must have been quite unbearable getting to the library) the circulation and program interest has been sus- tainsd. Thers w~re about 13,000 book users during June and we ~nticipate about 14,000 in July. The circulation seems to go down in direct ratio to the rise in temperature but the cool days make up for the hot ones. Miss Jo is still adding plans for the summer story hour programs and was heard to ask for more supplies since the attendance is not dropping off as she expected it to. A possible new front entrance to the basement area has been suggested. The trips through the boiler room are not in direct compliance to the fire department's idea of safety exits ~d it would give more access for groups wishing to use this facility. The Board will want to make some recommenda- tion concerning this. The volunteers have been especially helpful this summer. ¥7e have tried a different supervision system -and were able to be quite selective about the folks who were asked to help as there were about twice as many vo- lunteering as needed. We're sure to find some future iibrari-ans among this group, Parents seem especially eager to have constructive things for the young folks to do, It is time now to start organizing the fall programs and the Board may wish to suggest policy in this regard. ¥~ether to continue the pre- school story hours in the amount of last year and the mothers' programs, also. %re'ye had numerous requests for registration for fall projr~ns already, In regard to any agreement with ~LSA or the Anoka County Library~ no actual progress has been made. Other avenues will be explored and another meeting has been set for the middle of August between the librarians and a representative from each community to negotiate an agreement if possible. A tentative budget request has been com]=iled and the Board may wish to revise or alter it. The staff hopes to ~o ahead with new and better ideas for the Columbia Heights Library. 0 0 0 © .el 0 0 Columbia Heights Public Library Expenditures - July 22 Books and Magazines: Better Homes & Gardens Lundblad's Bindery A.
