HomeMy WebLinkAboutJanuary 7, 1970COLL~,fBIA HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT JAhUJARY 7TH The library was closed December 24th, 25th, and 26th according to a polisy established by a preceeding board whereby the library is open on the legal holidays during the school year when the schools are in session and closed near the Christmas holidays when such action ineonvenienGes v~ry few people. Possibly this Board might again like to take some action either to affirm this policy or revise it. It is estimated that about $150.O0 in salaries is saved by this proGedure, Sister Theresa of Saint Catherine's College in St, Paul is bringing a group of her students to the Columbia Heights Library to be instructed in story telling by Miss Jo on January 19th. Sh~ will be describing story telling techniques and how to produce puppet shows. Two estimates have been received for tiling the basement. Both seem rather 'high~ but it would be a good time to have it done while busines~ is slow, %re could use more names of firms who would be interested in bidding on the work, Students are again using the library to supplement the school libraries. Adult patronage faultered very little during the Christmas season. Story hours are again in full swing. Thirty three Qolumbia Heights residents received Minneapolis library cards during DeGember and fifty four Minneapolis residents received Columbia Heights library Gards. This makes a total of ninety Colmmbia Heights res- idents using Minneapolis library cards and eighty thre~ Minneapolis res- idents.are using the Columbia Heights library. Saturday morning ar~ classes will be resumed January 24th, There will be two classes at 10:00 and 11:30~ A Gomplete report on 1969 activities will be given at the next Board meet- ing when the figures have been compiled for the annual state report~ Letters were sent reminding users of acGumulated fines. Som~ of the under- privileged people are deprived of the use of the library because of irres- ponsibility in returning books, The staff %s concerned about this s~d would like some suggestions about keeping these people as readers, i,,B~tter ~omes & Gardens ......
