Report - November, 1969
~Jith the onset of a early winter, the library is anticipating the
usual December slump and doing some of its housekeeping chores that
are left for this time of the year.
The operation of the contract between the Minneapolis Library and
the Columbia Heights Public Library is going smoothly. So far there
are:
Columbia Heights folks applying for a l~ipts, card...
Mpls. folks applying for a Columbia Hts. card ...... 29
The library staff had felt that there would be an initial im-
balance~ due somewhat to curiousity and newness of the arrangement;
but if the additional ~ervi~e is needed it is satisfying to know that
it is available.
The librarian attended the Governor's Conference on the Aging
and sat on a panel discussing library activities for senior citizens.
It may be that the Senior Citizen Meetings at the Columbia Heights
Public Library are unique and fev~ communities have this service.
They seem to be appreciated.
The library carpeting has been cleaned and the new maintenance
service (Midwest Building Sez~i~e) has taken over and is gi~ing very
satisfactory service. The employees come before th~ library ~loses
in the evening and are able to compare notes with the staff as to
chores to be done.
~ puppet show is planned f~r the 30~ of December for the vaca-
tioning school children. During Book ~eek, the movie, Heidi, was
presented ss well as a s~ory time for the younger children. ~bout
300 children attended these programs.
The Saturday morning art classes will be ~ompleted in two weeks,
as will the Reading Efficiency Classes. However, there are some
children that wish to take art classes in the winter and if the
teacher is abailable, they will be contacted to see if they are
still interested.
Merry Christmas everyone and may 1970 be a profitable year!
