COL~.iBI~ HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY
October 29, 1969
The library is busier this fall thsm it has ever been this time of
year. Besides the fascinating extra things that are going on, the circulation
is h~gher. Evidently the people that come for art and speed reading are
reading.
The librarian spent Tuesday morning at the Minneapolis Public Library
trying to iron out ca~y problems that might arise from the reciprocal agreement
with the Minneapolis ~ubtic Library. The registration procedures seem simple.
Their clerks will check with the Columbia Heights Public Library before issuing
a card to make certain that the applicant is eligible--a resident of Columbia
Heights with no outstanding fines or overdue books. Our people are expected to
do the same thing. It is hoped that not too many complications ~.~ill develop.
The registration files have been put in order smd large fines and lost books
noted so some remuneration may come from this thorough check.
The library is s~heduled for a through house cleaning on Saturday.
The new cleaning service should be on hand and ~he carpet clesm~ers ~.~ill be here
on Saturday afternoon. It is sincerely hoped that they can get rid of the tar
that has been tracked in. It's ¥~onderful to have the street done.
The basement has become a wonderful asset. The library programs there
during library hours do not interfere with the regular function of the library.
There is Art Club on Monday nights, speod reading on ~ednesday nights, Christ-
mas craft class on Thursday nights, and art classes on Saturday mornings.
The new books have been coming in more quickly in October and our
quota should be here by January.
