OO 460.83 4.49 548.47 41.19 124.10 33.22 198.61 13.O0 26.00 55.30 C~iumbia Heigilts Public Library September, 1969 In the short time since the last meeting we have received ~ord from the Minneapolis Library that they would like to proceed in the following fashion ~ith a~l agreement with the Columbia Heights Library~ Each library is to keep track of the number of subscribers from the other city and any inequality vzould be reimbursed at the rate of ~t5.00 a person by the library system from which they come--not to exceed ]13~O00.00 a year. Miss Doris Northenscold of the [,~inneapolis Public Library visited the Columbia Heights Library ~%d ~as enthusiastic about the facilities and thc program~. ~[r. Na~rocki visited the library to examine the cleaning service. The library was immediately cleaned after that, but since then there is a ne~ j~i- tress and still there is no buffer for the floors, The programs at the library are well subscribed. The speed reading course sponsored by the University of [~innesota has attracted a good deal of interest. This seems book related. There are already more people for the pre-school story hours than we are able to handle so we have a waiting list for january. The art club is a new experiment and purely voluntary. [!e're anxious to sec how it will go. About 100 were in attendance at the first puppet show produced by the Puppet Club last Saturday. I.C.C. has scheduled regular library hours for the third t~ eighth grades every two weeks. During the summer 441 new people took out library cards ht Columbia Heights Public Library amd there have been 994 since January lst~ ~i1 in all it looks like a busy season. COL~3IA HEIGHTS PL~LIC LIBRARY This has been an especially busy fall at the library, The circulation is about what it was the year before without the first four grades from the parochial school. The story hour sessions are over subscribed. About 1~O children are en- rolled in the three groups. Book week activities are being piss_ned. Eighth grade students will pro- duce puppet shows for the younger children. Mr. Kr~mer again has an art display of his primitives in the library. The Vetersuas of Foreign Wars and the Auxiliary have donated toward the equipmen% to enrich the programs in the library, The eighth grade Home Economics classes visited the library to hear about books for baby sitting. The store room has been reorganized to allow the use of the washrooms without exposing folks to the library sups!les. '%uite a few different groups have show~ an ~ntereat in the cleaning con- tract for the library. Mr. Johnston is working with the library and Kiwanis Club to furnish tickets for the Senior Citizens to the travel programs sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. He is also arr~]ging for transportation for those that need it. The staff painted the walls of the ~onfere~ce room and now they are bright and clean again. i~[rs. Shirley Alfson has been m~{ing illustrations frem children's books for the story hour groups. A meeting in November will help ciea:~ up the acceur~ing for 1~65. A date could be set for this meeti~g.
