August Report
Due to the lovely cool weather during June, our circulation hit an all
time phenomenal figure of 16,207. With the expanded summer school program~
we had expected a small decline, but it seems that school work encourages
library usage. The July usage was close to that of last year's.
The summer programs were received enthusiastically. There were ?~ en-
rolled in puppet club and with three story hours weekly there was a high atten-
dance at one of ?~ children, de have made good use of the basement this ~ummer
and one Friday we pain~ed the walls~ trying to make it more cheerful. If
tiling for the floor could be included in the next year's budget, the whole room
could be more easily maintained. The size of the room is about 25' ~100' and
the staff has been doing its own janitor work this year.
The outside of the building has been rest~'i~ined ~o that we are once again
black and white--not gray and white. The street crew h~s covered the rocks in
back with black top ~'.nd we hope to get the Park De~artment to do some planting
he~',,,r the patio. The lawn also needs top dressin.~ and watering and when the
street is completed we will have the c.~,rpets cleaned inside.
The library now h~s a draw dra?e hung on the bi? door between the check
out desk and the main room so that we can have afternoon film programs in the
large room. Our Senior Citizens grou~ has out grown the conference room and
they have been having their monthly sessions in the m~in room..
The conveyor for the book drop has been quite successful. The emergency
locks were repaired at a cost of i~2.00.
Enrollment for the pre-school story hours this fall has started and they
promise to be as popul~r as ever. There will be at least three Saturday put,pet
show during September as a result of the ~uppet Clu~.
The staff has so appreciate~~ t!~is attractive cool pl ~e to work and are
de~er~ined to keep ahead of the dir~.
