Pauline's father died this morning and I don't believe we quite realized all the things she did while she is going about her chores. The elementary grades have been visiting the library this spring as a type of library orientation program, consequently our circulation fig- ures are astronomical and don't give a reasonable picture as to the use of the library. These students are getting reading guidance from stor- ies and filmstrips that seem to be steering them toward increased book interest. The Minneapolis Library has proposed some written conditions for the reciprocal use of the Columbia Heights and Minneapolis libraries and when formal conditions are completed~ the agreement should go into effect in July. It has come to our attention that some of our best pages are eon~er- ned that they will not be able to afford to work at the library this summer because of higher wages they could get other places. Some wage adjustment at this lowest bracket should be ~onsidered. The black stain on the outside of the library needs re.doing. Ue are in the process of collecting estimates for this re-finishing. Plans for the summer program are formalized and the librarian will be visiting all the schools next month to amquaint the folks with our proposed sehedule~ It is quite possible that many of the N.E. Minn- eapolis folks will be interested becaus$ of their limited summer school classes. The air-conditioning system should be serviced before hot weather sets in, Maybe some cooperation could be arranged with the other city plants. It would be lovely if some planting could be done near the patio in back where the ground was left bare~ The gravel that is there now would have to be replaced with some black dirt before anything would grow. Spring is here and we're looking forward to a profitable summer, April, 1969 MRS~ HARRIET DEEBLE, LIBRARIAN
