HomeMy WebLinkAboutJuly 1968Columbia Heights Public Library Report July-August, 1968 The circulation totals this summer ~re slightly under last summer's. However, the figure for July was still over 14,000 and August will be about the same, This is an average of about .640 books a day, It is possible that the schools' greatly enlarged summer school program may have something to do with the over-~ll total, ~e had been expecting an increase because we seemed busier and our p~ograms were so well received, Anoka County Library Board has been making some overtures toward pmying the Columbia Heights Library so that Fridlcy residents could use this library. Already Fridley residents who attend Columbia Hei~ ghts schools are using the library. If some terms could be reached it migent be possible to ser~e this community, too, with- out too muoh additional expense. The Columbia Heights residents would also be al- lowed the use of the Anoka County Library, The possibility of joining a film circuit is being investigated, This would supply the library with 16 mm. films to be circulated on a rental basis. There seems to be some demand for this sort of service, Some phone discs have been reGeived ~s gifts and are being processed for cir- culation. Art classes were held at the library for the folks who subscribed to the course, nn Open House was held for the parents of the students and gave them an opportunity to view the work and get acquainted with the library. The bright spot in the libr~ry life is the Senior Citizens day. Th~ staff hopes to be of more service to this age group, The Puppet Club is finally come to fruition and some puppet shows will be held on the first two Saturd<~ys that sGhool is open. It has be.~n a busy happy summer and now we're lining up progr:~ms for the mo- thers of the pre-school story hour folks who will be visiting us during the fall and winter, ~ ~ 88 8 ~ ~ 88888~8~8888.
