More adults are making use of the library than ever and the Pre-School Story ttour program is more popular than ever. The mothers of the pre-school folks are using Selma Fraiberg's book "Magic Years" as a basis of study discussions. Dr.o Gary Good has visited the group and generously answered any questions about child health and training. The mothers have donated enough money, along with other donations to pur- chase black out drapes for the large lounge area of the library so that they may enjoy films that are appropriate. We are hoping that the Lion's "Club may take an interest in this program. Miss Jo's Story Hours are really too well populated, but thanks to the equip- ment we were able to purchase, the darkening shades, the film strip machine, the film projector, and the tape recorder, she seems to manage nicely. She often has as many as 35 children at each of the three Story Hours while 21 is an ideal maximum number. Next fall, ~nd already the mothers are asking to register for then, we may have to run four sessions. The Mrs. Jaycee's contributed $87~OO toward the film projector. The Senior Citizen programs are definitely a sueess. Last session one of the ladies told Pauline to "Take care of yourself, honey~ bcmause we want to oome again!" Most of the material has been prepared for the summer activities, The reading progr~ is going to have a "Dete®tive" theme, with membership cards and certificates for achievement. The schools are very interested in coop- erating with this program and the Librarian is visiting all of the ~tcm- entary schools this week to make sure everyone knows about it, Thers will -also be Story Hours for children in Kindergarten to 4th grade and a Puppet Club for 5th ~nd 6th graders. We have already reserved free films to aug- ment this schedule. The Art Exhibit for Library Week was tremendous. It never fails to impress patrons with the talent in Columbia Heights. ~e are especially grateful to Bruce Rasmussen of the art department of the high school for coordinating this affair. ~ings are progressing well, and we are looking forward to summer time.
