NOVD~R & DMC.~BZR 1966
November and December were very busy months at ~he library.
There was au unprecedented number (11,000) books used during
the month of November and December was 1~700 books busier
than December a year ago. Columbia School now has some library
books so all of the classes from Columbia will no longer be
formally using the public library. However the teachers have
made it clear that they intend to continue encouraging the
students to use the Public Library after school hours and some
of the teachers and classes will continue to use the librar~y
during school hours because the collection here is more com-
prehensive. Now we expect to catch up on some of the things that
have been left undone.
The new building is underway and we can hardly wait. The library
is full and we are hunting for cret~ces to put books and people.
The parking lot is full of bricks and buildings and we are h~,~t-
Lug for places to put cars. The new facilities will be most
welcome.
Besides having an unusually large circulation we have had some
shortage of staff. ~Ms. Anderson is back after a prolonged ill-
ness (since August), Mrs. Franklin has recovered from moncnucle..
osis, and everyone is through with attacks of virus. W, added a
new page to the payroll. It was decided to select the most
senior volunteer girl, and she has proved a real addition. It
is wonderful to have t,,is partially trained group to esl2 upon~
Many times without this crew of volunteer folks we just couldn't
have operated. They all show a remarkable sense of responsibility~
After much mental anguish and struggle the libra~iau has now
passed another course in library science~ and is well on the way
to the Master's degree, but more important, feel much better
informed on library techniques. ~ne University is certainly
located in a strategic spot for our community. M~uy of our folks
are enrolled at the new Junior College in Circle Pinos and use
the library for study and research.
Even if Thanksgiving is pas~ we feel c~!led upon to give special
thanks for many people: The industrious Library Board, the far
sighted City Administration and Elected Officials, and the coop-
eration and understanding of the entire community.
