SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER
1965
Septemb.~,r en~ October of 1965 have been unusus.lly busy and re-
warding months° The circulation is up over 4000 over this s~me period
last year. We presumed that this was due to the use of the 2ibrary
by Columbia School mud this does account for about 2000 book uses~
but we were gratified to disco,-er that the adult circulation in-
creased over 1000 during t}~is same time. There just seems, to be an
overall increase in reading interest in the metropolitan area°
People have expressed a great de~3. of interest ~u the plans for
the new building program:. The architect's dra~,~ing of the outside of
the building may have inspired some of this.
t~e school children that havo regular library periods here have
been exceptiona21y nell behaved ~nd in~e:-ested. The t.achers do a
good job of supervising and it is a plea:~ure to help ?.em £in¢
needed materi~l,, It keeps us hustling but since this 5.s only .~.
temporary arrangement until the new school opens next £~ll we are
letting some things go until a less busy time comes '~ulongo We .mve
not v~orried about having enough books for these people, but have
been 1Lmitin~ them to t~,to books each a week. The libraries at ti e
schools have been letting out only one book each so they seem ~'el~.
satisfied .~
The staff enjoyed the Book Fair at t'-,o University and especially
appreciated being able to hoar Carol Bri~_k, the noted c!~ildrenOs
author~ in person, it's a ye-~.rly event t~:at we would hate to miss°
Wo were plea::ed to note that we already had many of t'~'~.e books that
uere recommended by the revieuerso
Our own Book Week celebration uili consist mainly in story
