July & August
This summer,s circulation figures do not show t,h,~, fabulous
increases that they did !a~t year° In July there were 10,190
books used which was only slightly more than July a ye~r
August's figure will be about 9700 which is about 300 m~re the~
l~t aug~Ast~ ~1~e increase has been mainly in adult book:, and
this will continue as the collection grows° Evidently pekple
read more in extremely i~.ot weather than in the moderate w~ather
,;~en they can enjoy other activities. The Anoka County
reported a decrease in circulation this summer.
Over 1,O~ ci~ildren registered for the summer reading
gram. Thirty-five have reported as reading over 20 books. On~
boy seems to have the championship, having read 150 books°
There have been 510 new patrons enrolled this summer° More
and more folks are getting acquainted with the facilities and
the ad,~lts are bringing the c'~[ldren~
We have spent considerable time this summer sending for
free pamphlet material for the vertical fileo This material is
widely used by the students d::ring the school year°
After school st~ts the collection will be inspected for
books that need weeding and repairing. EVery possible preparation
w~ll be made to give service to the students~
During the summer some effort was made to catch up with
overdue books. The librari~ even weut collecting at eom, of
the homes~ About 25 books were retrieved that otherwise would
have been lost. An unusually la~e ~nou t of fine moneywas
received as w~ll as recovering the value of the books.
The periodical section is cverflowing its space, People
seem to be especially enjoying the new magazines. The non-
fiction section is very crowded. ~e are patiently stalling
while waiting for the new addition°
