August 27, 1964
After the June circulation of 12,000, the July and August figures of 10, 00 and
9,00 seem very modest. However, this is about 2,000 more than 1963 for the
same period. The over all circulation figures for 1964 show and increase of 30%
with June the bonanza month.
The library is still moving. There have been 271 new subscribers since July 2st.
Many of the volunteer girls have acquired some skill and are a great help. Each
member of the staff was able to take a vacation without making major adjustments.
A meeting has been called for the volunteers for Friday morning and pictures for
the Record will be taken. Some of the girls have offered to help after school. This
may take some of the strain off of the remaining year's budget.
The heat in the library during July was remarkable. We even tried ice cubes in
front of the fan. The patrons showed great loyalty in braving the heat.
A new book order is being readied for September. Some of the teachers in the
history department are helping by furnishing bibliographies of interesting and
helpful books.
A proposed budget for the coming year has been investigated and evaluations are
being made.
Mrs. Parsons is writing a story of Miss Hawkin's career as librarian for the
Record. The date for the open house has been set for September l0th to make it
possible for all to attend.
Mrs. Wiggen has made herself available for work in the library on a part time basis.
It will be most helpful to have such a qualified person on the staff.
The librarian has again registered for the fall quarter. The course is Library
Administration. She hopes to pass.
