May ll, 1964
Another new record for circulation was set in March.
9300 books were circulated at that time. Last March we thought
we were doing exceptionally well with 71OO. April's circulation
was abo~t 400 less with ~900. It was gratifying to notice that
the adult circulation went up in April and that the decrease was
due mainly to the weather and having the ci~ildren finally able to
play outside. It was still 19OO more than a year ago.
The magazine circulation averaged aoout 15 a day. The
feeling that magazines will fill the informational gap was
justified.
The librarian spent an enjoyable noon hour with the Kiwanis
Club. We recommended that they enjoy paying t~xes for library
services.
The eighth grade girls from the Immaculate Conception
School have been so helpful at noon time that we are willing to
try this again next year. The children have been doing the work
volunte~ily. ~is gives all of the school a feeling of partici-
pation and responsibility for the atmosphere of the library.
In fact, these girls worked out so well that when the Girl
Scout leader from the Lutheran Church offered the services of the
girls for an hour after school, we tried that too. Maybe this year
we can keep within the budget for extra help!
~qe Junior High School classes in Home Economics are coming
ovar next week for recommendations for books for baby sitting.
This month we are speaking to all the grade school children
in Columbia Heights and inviting them to participate in the surmmer
reading program with the theme of the New York World's Fair. It
should turn out to be an interesting summer.
