HomeMy WebLinkAboutNovember 11, 1963COLUmbIA HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY November Il, lP63 The September circulation statistics were something of a shock to the staff; after the 9000 and 80OO's of the summer 5800 seemed quite slow. Still it was 2000 more than Septem- ber a year ago. And now we are back in stride with 7300 for October which is on,~ of the biggest months we have had while school is in session. This of course does not account for the large amount of reference work done in the library. A new member has been added to our staff. Pauline Rusinyak who was formerly employed at Trench's Variety is now doing some of the clerical ~ork in t~e late afternoons and evenings. She isattractive, efficient, and pleasant to have around. Also mature enough to command the respect of the children. Contact has been made with the school faculties and libraries so that the fullest effectiveness can be achieved for all library facilities. An organization of librarians from schools and public libraries has been for~ed and monthly meetings are attended as often as possible. Special attention is being given to book week. Posters and book markers are available to the patrons and an election for the "favorite Book" is being held. We attended book week sessions at the University school of education and heard Marguerite Henry and reviews of the new children's books. Steps are being taken by the city to repair the ceiling at the library and to correct the poor heating ~ nditions near the checkout desk. 'We are looking forward to a very busy ~inter and our d rst mw book order. H.
