Bi-monthly report
May 11, 1963
~rch end April were again two record breaking months as far as
circulation w~s concerned. About 7100 for ~rch a~d 7000 for
April. May seems to be somewhat slower and we doub~very much if
there will be that much interest during the hot summer month~.
We are now adding our 1500th book to the collection. This is the
1500th book since January first. Some of these were donated but
most of them were selected and purchased. We have tried to be more
systematic about selectio$,purch~se and cataloguing but some mis-
takes are still being m~de ~nd some of the books are not just what
we would like, but people seem to be enjoying the new books.
There have been 500 new subscribers since the first of January.
As far as population is concerned over 50% h~ve library c~rds in
Co~l~mbi~ Heights.
Some plans ar~ going forward for the summer. A new ~stery series
hss been purchased ~or the june. or readers. A reading program is
being set up with a rocket theme. New books for High School readers
are being readied.
Consider~:tion is being given to s~mmer hours.
Some new shelves are being planned for a reference section and additions
to the periodical files.
We are becoming a clearing house for science fiction. People bring in
their own collections to share with others ~nd save us the purchase
of m~ny of these books of transient interest.
The Minnesota Library report has arrived. We don't look ar$~ worse than
we expected. Mmybe next year we will look even better.
