HomeMy WebLinkAboutAugust 1961The summer months of July and Au~fust have been surprlsinsly fruitful
with regard to circulation in sv~.ite of their no~nal reputation as
vacation months. Total circulation in July amounted to ~,923. AL~gust
increased that fiaure slightly to
ail children's
Ju. ly figures divided into la!2 adult circulation; 3,_
circulation. This fi~ure showed an increase of 2~& in the adult depart-
ment, a decrease of ~O4 in the children's department, for a net loss
of 1~0 for our principal summer vacation month. August showed a ~ain of
291 in adult circulation; a loss of ~40 in Juvenile reading for a net
loss of ~9. The fla_ures for both of the months of july and August have
been compared to the month of June which has so far this year been our
record high for the year. In the light of these statistics, I would say
that our summer read!ns has maintained a satisfactor~y level in view of
the large numbers of our regular borrowers who have been on vacation
during the past three months.
I have conducted three story times on alternate Saturdays since the
~tten
last board meeting. The first two of these had ~ dances of less than
ten. The third attracted fourteen boys and girls. I am not satisfied
with attendance records, but i feel sure that they will improve with the
opening of school·
